1911 census

Postby Ozzie » Tue May 26, 2009 2:25 am

Anybody had a look at this - I have - bought some credits and found out quite a bit about my family. This census has on it how many years they have been married and how many children they have had living or dead. I found out my grandmothers on both sides had more kids that I knew about -my grandfather's sister had 14 kids - must be why she died young in her forties - he must have worn her out!

It sounds like the US Federal censuses in later years. Very interesting I think. Don't you love the details even though they are so sad? "Fleshing out" your ancestors adds to your tree but you see the bravery and sadness of the ones that came before us. I feel kinda pathetic at the side of them. I also feel it's my duty to share their story.

I'm hoping that Ancestry come out with something as I don't like the cowboys that run the 1911 census and don't know why they got the job in the first place.

Some of my family are using it and like you Cath have found extras we didn't know about or weren't too sure how they fitted in. The mysterious Freddy Gallear (b 1909) who family members loved was Wilfred Gallear. I wondered why I couldn't find him!

Is it going to get easier and cheaper to access? I could get credits but I'm waiting to see if Ancestry comes up with their research as I find their site easier to use.
