It's a week since Ronnie Biggs's lawyer applied for compassionate release and there is no sign of a quick decision.
And word from the hospital is, apparently, that the ailing Great Train Robber will not recover from the severe pneumonia which prompted his move there from Norwich jail.
Justice Secretary Jack Straw played it tough by refusing parole last month and might be persuaded now to show his softer side.
Biggs's lawyer Giovanni di Stefano is running out of patience and ideas.
He's won a judicial review of the parole refusal, but the judge won't hear that till next month and by then it may be too late anyway.
Mr di Stefano said: "Will Mr Straw please make a decision as this matter is serious.
"Mr Biggs's health will not improve and he fulfills all the conditions for compassionate release.
"Do not let this man die pending a decision please and allow him to die as a free man with some dignity."
How do you feel about this? Do you think he should be given a free pass out?
